Lara Trump Withdraws from Florida Senate Seat Consideration
Change direction with the wind
Future plans await
Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, announced Saturday she is removing herself from consideration for Florida's upcoming U.S. Senate vacancy. The seat is expected to become available when current Senator Marco Rubio assumes his nominated position as Secretary of State in the incoming administration.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Trump said her decision came 'after an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many.' The announcement ends weeks of speculation about her potential appointment to the position.
'I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I'm truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,' Trump stated.
The decision comes shortly after her stepping down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee earlier this month. While President-elect Trump had previously expressed interest in having his daughter-in-law appointed to the position, he later acknowledged that the final decision would rest with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is responsible for appointing Rubio's replacement.
The appointee selected by DeSantis will serve the remaining two years of Rubio's term, which extends until 2026. The governor has indicated that he plans to make an appointment by early January.
While withdrawing from consideration, Lara Trump hinted at future developments, noting she has a 'big announcement' planned for January. She expressed continued interest in public service, stating she remains 'incredibly passionate about public service and looks forward to serving our country again sometime in the future.'
